The initial heat-searching for missiles would only position in the direction of the concentrate on and chase it; this was inefficient. Newer missiles are smarter and make use of the gimballed seeker head coupled with what is called proportional steerage as a way to stay away from oscillation and also to fly an effective intercept path.
